BRG Corporate Plan

This Plan sets out how the BRG operates.

Our Mission

The Banjup Residents Group strives to preserve and improve our rural areas as safe, green havens of peace and tranquillity for our local community

The Group gives effect to its Mission by:

  1. Making representations to governments and corporations to protect and improve continuously the security, safety, and amenity of rural areas of Banjup, Jandakot, and Treeby and their residents

  2. Building positive relations with residents, governments, corporations, and nearby communities

  3. Encouraging good private land management practices that improve the natural characteristics and the fire safety of our rural areas

  4. Encouraging positive neighbourly exchanges between rural residents

  5. Operating primarily as a ‘virtual group’ that mostly interacts with members electronically

Critical to the success of the BRG are these factors:

  1. ​Effective communications channels to all householders (property owners and occupiers) in our rural areas

  2. Provision of timely, accessible, relevant, and coherent information about security, fire safety, amenity, and land management matters in our rural areas

  3. Accurate understanding of the needs and views of most property owners and occupiers in our rural areas

  4. Effective advocacy to decision makers in governments and corporations about security, fire safety, amenity matters, and community events in our rural areas

  5. Maintaing independence from governments and corporations

BRG measures its success by:

  1. Penetration of membership into all households in our rural areas

  2. Participation by membership and other householders in events and consultations

  3. Recognition of the advocacy of the BRG by governments and corporations

  4. How to measure improvements in private land management and fire safety?

  5. How to measure building a feeling of community?

BRG supports its mission by the execution of 5 sets of strategies:

Governance

  1. Operating as an incorporated body under the Associations Incorporation Act (WA)

  2. Convening a general meeting of members at least once a year to elect a Committee to pursue the Group’s Mission, according to the Group’s Rules

  3. Listening to and seeking consensus from BRG members and the wider community about initiatives and concerns to pursue

  4. Maintaining a comprehensive ‘corporate memory’ of all BRG activities and communications

  5. Making available for ready access by members all documents prepared by the Committee

  6. Convening sub-committees to manage the implementation of specific initiatives but always with the endorsement of the full BRG Committee

Communications

  1. Building increasing awareness within the rural community of the work of the BRG and the opportunities to shape initiatives

  2. Seeking the rural community’s views on topical issues

  3. Communicating primarily with BRG members and the wider rural community though electronic media

    1. Maintaining an up-to-date register of BRG members to whom emails can be sent and replies sought

    2. Maintaing an up-to-date BRG web site that is the repository of

      1. advocacy matters

      2. security, fire safety, amenity, and land management information

    3. Maintaing a Facebook page where rural residents can exchange relevant information safely and respectfully

  4. Presenting a professional image of the Group and its activities that adds to the credibility of its advocacy and communications

    1. Maintaining a standard style of documents that reinforces the professional image of the Group and its activities

  5. Communicating at least annually with BRG members and the wider rural community though printed media

  6. Maintaining segmentation matrices that inform how BRG activities are delivered through various mediums

Advocacy

  1. Explaining to BRG members and other residents clearly and without prejudice the issues that confront our rural communities and the recommendations of the Committee

  2. Actively seeking the views of BRG members and other residents on topical issues affecting our rural areas

  3. Presenting considered, articulate, and convincing proposals to residents, governments, and corporations

  4. Sustaining the BRG’s reputation as an informed and constructive voice to be listened to

Community Building

  1. Encouraging exchanges of information and advice between all residents, old and new.

  2. Encouraging residents’ participation in BRG events and initiatives

  3. Facilitating City of Cockburn and other events relevant to our Mission in our rural area

  4. Building recognition and pride in our rural area as a safe, green haven of peace and tranquillity

  5. Raising and securing necessary funds for BRG events and initiatives

Information Technology

  1. Appointing an IT administrator from within the BRG Committee who will manage the provision of services in accordance with the IT strategy

    1. Maintaining Internet presences available to all rural residents

    2. Maintaining a custom internet domain name for the Banjup Residents Group

    3. Maintaining an up-to-date web site of comprehensive and relevant information about our rural area

  2. Managing a safe social media presence that is relevant to rural residents

  3. Providing electronic office services that underpin the ‘virtual’ operation of the BRG

    1. Maintaining an up-to-date electronic register of all members of the BRG

    2. Having effective email services that keep all correspondence in perpetuity

    3. Providing email addresses for each of the BRG office bearers and an IT administrator

    4. Providing email addresses for each member of the BRG Committee

    5. Having a comprehensive data base of all documents originated by or sent to the BRG, kept in perpetuity
